Anniversary Ceremonies Spiritually Rich, Non-Religious Anniversary Ceremonies Susan M. Mumm, MA |
Typically, in our society anniversary celebrations tend to be of the "light and fluffy" variety; food and dancing and some humorous toasts. It is my sense that adding a bit of serious dialogue to an anniversary celebration could serve a very important purpose. It would give people who are SUCCESSFUL at marriage, an opportunity to impart some of their wisdom about what it takes to make a marriage last. The ceremony doesn't have to be as long as a Catholic Mass, but perhaps a half hour or so of dialogue would be appropriate. This ceremony is written for a twenty-fifth Anniversary celebration. If the idea of a more deep and meaningful anniversary celebration is appealing to you, hopefully this sample ceremony will generate some ideas you can use for your own ceremony. |
